Apple Watch Faces New Import Ban Probe Amid Masimo Patent Dispute
The U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) has launched a fresh investigation into Apple's latest smartwatches, potentially leading to an import ban. This escalation stems from Masimo's allegations that Apple's redesigned devices still infringe on its blood-oxygen monitoring patents. The ITC aims to conclude its review within six months.
Apple dismisses the claims as baseless, accusing Masimo of attempting to stifle competition while copying Apple's designs. The tech giant previously resolved a 2023 import ban on Series 9 and Ultra 2 watches by temporarily disabling then modifying the contested feature. Masimo continues its legal offensive, challenging U.S. Customs' approval of the modified watches in federal court.
